    Transcript. Before anything else, put the values in order from least to greatest. Then read off five numbers: the minimum, quartile one, the median, quartile three, and the maximum. Those five cut the data into four quarters, and each quarter holds about the same share of the values, even when one looks wider.

    Transcript. When a distribution is roughly symmetric, describe it with the mean and standard deviation. When one extreme value pulls the tail, switch to the median and the interquartile range, which ignore the outer tails. And remember the interquartile range is quartile three minus quartile one, not the full spread.

    A two-way frequency table organizes categorical data to show relationships between two variables, using joint frequencies for inner cells, marginal frequencies for totals, and conditional relative frequencies to compare specific subgroups.

    Transcript. The inside cells count people in both categories at once. The edges hold the totals. When a question says given, it hands you the denominator: use only that row or column total. Here the model predicts thirteen but the real point is twelve, so the residual is negative one, meaning the point sits one unit below the line. A patterned residual plot means a line is the wrong model.

    The correlation coefficient, r, measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship, but a strong correlation does not imply that changes in one variable cause changes in another due to potential lurking variables.
